Frequently Asked Questions About
BLS and ACLS Certification

What is BLS or ACLS certification?

BLS (Basic Life Support) certification covers the core skills for adult, child, and infant emergencies—high-quality compressions, breaths, AED use, and team roles. ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification builds on BLS for adult patients and adds rhythm recognition, medication algorithms, advanced airway, defibrillation/cardioversion, and running a code. After you pass the course, you receive an official AHA course completion eCard (your proof of certification), typically valid for two years.

Enroll with Comfi-Kare CPR, choose BLS (Initial or Renewal) and/or ACLS (Initial or Renewal), attend the in-person class at our Silver Spring training center, complete the skills check and written test, and—after you pass—receive your AHA eCards.

Yes—most employers require a current BLS card even if you hold ACLS. ACLS assumes BLS skills and does not replace them. Check your facility’s policy, but plan to keep both current.

Yes. Many learners complete BLS first, then ACLS on the same day or on back-to-back dates, depending on the schedule. Book the combo if you want a single checkout and coordinated times.

BLS focuses on basic life support skills like high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and AED use for all ages, while ACLS covers advanced resuscitation techniques, including airway management, medications, and team response for adult cardiac emergencies.

To find a reputable BLS and ACLS certification near you, look for AHA-approved programs that offer both BLS training and ACLS training taught by certified instructors. These courses should focus on building strong resuscitation skills through hands-on practice and updated guidelines, preparing professionals for real-life emergencies. Checking reviews and confirming the certifications are recognized by local hospitals and employers will help ensure you choose quality training.
